Privacy Policy
Last updated · 2026-06-03Murmur Language (“Murmur”, “we”, “us”) collects only the data needed to deliver bilingual subtitles, vocabulary, and learning progress across your devices. This page summarises what we collect, how it is used, the third parties we rely on, and your rights.
What we collect
- Account: email, display name, and optional Google OAuth identifier.
- Learning data: videos you save, words and sentences you capture, and per-episode progress markers.
- Billing metadata for purchases (no card data; card data lives with Stripe).
- Operational logs: request metadata for rate limiting and debugging. Auto-purged within 30 days.
What we don’t collect
- Video or audio files from platforms like YouTube. Murmur never downloads, transcodes, or caches media streams. Subtitles and translations are cached for at most 30 days from last access, then cleared.
- Browsing history outside the platforms you actively use Murmur on.
- No third-party advertising or behavioural-tracking cookies (see Cookie Policy).
Third-party services we rely on
A small set of services power subtitles, AI features, and billing. Each only receives the data needed for its specific role:
- Stripe — payment processing (email, billing name, card data held by Stripe).
- Google — sign-in identity, default subtitle translation (Gemini Flash), word audio.
- Anthropic — AI subtitles and AI video summary.
- Azure and iFLYTEK — pronunciation feedback, region-routed. Audio is deleted after scoring.
- Cloudflare R2 — cached pronunciation audio and any user-uploaded media.
Data retention
Subtitle and translation caches expire 30 days after their last access. Operational logs auto-purge within 30 days. Account data and learning data remain until you delete them or close your account.
Your rights
To request a copy of your account data or to have your account deleted, email [email protected]. We respond within 30 days, including for GDPR and CCPA requests. A self-serve export and delete experience inside your account is on the roadmap.
